This is the 2017 Yamaha YXZ1000R SS. This one has been set up with a "Rockford Fosgate" sound system, {with subs}, It jams!!!   1000cc liquid-cooled DOHC inline three-cylinder; 12 valves.  The SS stands for Sport Shift but what it means is paddle shift. This allows the driver to shift as much as he wants while never taking his hands off the wheel or even push in a clutch pedal. The long shift paddles are connected to the steering shaft and don't turn with the wheel. That way you know exactly where they are when you need to grab a gear.  Having the ability to leave both hands on the steering wheel and one leg planted against the floorboard, your body is free to rest or brace itself depending on the terrain, not on your shift points. So being able to brace as you come into a corner or check up for a G-out, actually eliminates any stress your body.  There is a hydraulic clutch hooked to the transmission, but it gets activated in a split second by an electronic solenoid that moves only when one of the two steering column mounted paddles shifters are pulled. It's quicker than what a driver could do with a manual clutch pedal.  Yamaha gave the YXZ1000R Fox piggy back shocks on all four corners. They are infinitely adjustable on the compression and rebound sides.     The cargo bed has room for a full sized spare tire laying down flat. Four steel tie down points allow you to secure anything you want to carry.

What about Launch Control? This is basically a feature that lets you dump the clutch at hi-revs for situations such as drag racing your buddies or at the start of a MX race.

To use it, from a stop at idle with your foot on the brake, you pull the two shift paddles in and hold them. Then move your foot over to the gas peddle and rev it as much as you want. Then, when you release the two paddles, the car moves forward just like if you dumped the clutch.

Another hidden feature of the 2017 Yamaha YXZ1000R SS, is that it downshifts for you. No it doesn’t read your mind, it’s a safety mechanism that saves the clutch but also improves the ride for beginner drivers. So how it works, is when the MCU (Motor Control Unit) senses low throttle input, low revs and a specific load on the engine, it will down shift one gear at a time.

So if you forget to down shift going up a hill, the machine will shift for you. Amazing! Also, a few seconds after you come to a stop, the transmission will downshift to first gear for you.  If you have never driven one, you need to stop in and check it out!!!
